North Bay Island, also called Coral Island, is one of the most visited islands near Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Surrounded by clear blue water and coral reefs, this island is perfect for adventure lovers, photographers, and anyone who wants to enjoy the best of Andaman’s underwater world.

North Bay is famous for offering the widest range of water sports in Andaman. From scuba diving to semi submarine rides, this island has something for everyone. The famous lighthouse shown on the old ₹20 note is also located here, making it a great spot for both thrill and scenic beauty.

Speciality of North Bay Island

North Bay Island is the best destination for water sports in Andaman. Its shallow and clean waters make it easy and safe even for beginners. The coral reefs here are colorful and full of marine life. You can enjoy adventure activities or simply relax by the beach. The lighthouse, featured on the old ₹20 note, adds charm to the island and is a popular photo spot.

You can reach North Bay Island by taking a ferry from the Water Sports Complex in Port Blair. The ferry ride takes about 25–30 minutes and offers beautiful views of the sea. Tickets can be booked directly at the jetty or online. Many tour operators also offer combo tours including Ross Island and North Bay Island.

Important Notice for Travelers

If you are planning to visit only North Bay Island, you will need to hire a private boat, which costs around ₹8,000 for a 10-seater boat. This can be expensive for small groups.

It is better to book the two-island tour that includes Ross Island and North Bay Island together. This option is more budget-friendly, popular among tourists, and easily available from Port Blair’s Water Sports Complex.

North Bay Island is open from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM daily. The best time to visit is during the cool and dry season from October to April. During this time, the weather is perfect for scuba diving, snorkeling, and parasailing. The sea remains calm and visibility is great for underwater views.

Alternative Road Route to North Bay Island (More Scenic)

Besides the usual boat ride, there is also a fun road and ferry route available if you prefer a scenic drive:

You can travel from Chatham Jetty (Port Blair) by vehicle ferry to Bambooflat. From there, drive through the green Andaman countryside toward the North Bay shoreline area. This route gives you a mix of land and sea adventure.

Although the direct road to North Bay’s core beach area may be restricted, this route is a great option for those who want offbeat travel experiences, local sightseeing, or to combine it with other South Andaman attractions nearby.
